A lot of parents wonder when they should take their child to the dentist for the first visit. According to the Canadian Dental Association, ideally, your child should visit the dentist within 6 months of the first tooth eruption or by the age of one year for dental exams. The purpose of dental exams is to establish a good relationship with each child before a problem develops. By visiting every 6 months potential problems can be minimized through early intervention and we can also monitor and provide tips and support parents on your child’s specific dental home care.

At Sunrise Centre Dental, our goal is to promote positivity in a safe environment. Your child will be greeted by the hygienist and have a tour of the dental hygiene room. This is a no pressure appointment and depending on your child’s level of comfort for participation, they can have a ride in the dental chair, practise opening their mouth, counting teeth, and growing from there. Children love to learn and teaching them parts of the mouth and teeth as well as proper brushing techniques at an early age helps to develop good oral hygiene health. It’s important to us that your child become comfortable and familiar with the sounds and surroundings at the dental office, and we welcome questions from parents regarding health and nutrition as well.

The Canadian Government is also helping Parents with the new Canada Dental Benefit. The intended use is to help lower dental costs for eligible families with children under 12 whose household income is than $90,000 per year and with no private dental care. Full information and eligibility can be found on the Government of Canada website and applications can be made starting December. 1, 2022. Check back to the link often as changes are being made.
